Bishop Greg K. Hargrave is the 7th of seven children born to Irene Hargrave and the late Clarence Hargrave. He was born in Lexington, North Carolina. His early ministry began at the Florida United Holy Church; under the leadership of Elder Fred T. Jones Sr. This is where he preached his initial sermon at the age of 18. At the age of 23 he was ordained an Elder in the United Holy Church of America. In May 1985 he was appointed pastor of Gospel Tabernacle United Holy Church in Burlington, NC. This initially was to have been a 3 month supply; however Bishop Hargrave has remained at this one and only pastorate for over 24 years.
Bishop Hargrave attended the public schools in Lexington, NC, and is a 1980 graduate of Lexington Senior High school, graduating as Senior Class President. His compassion for people and love of medicine created a career as a Paramedic, and he was employed with the Davidson County Emergency Medical Services for twelve years. He has attended the Jones School of Religion, Alamance and Davidson Community Colleges, and is a 1994 honor graduate of Winston Salem State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. He has also received two Master’s degrees, an MA in Theological studies, and an M-Div in Christian Ministry, graduating Magna-Cum laude with both degrees from the Carolina Evangelical Divinity School High Point, NC. He is presently pursuing the Doctor of Ministry degree.
Bishop Hargrave has exemplified a visionary leadership style during his pastorate. Numerous ministries and growth has resulted, along with the following accomplishments:
Purchased six acres of land
Built a new edifice
Opened and operates a daycare facility serving up to 95 children daily.
Purchased a two bedroom house
Purchased an additional vacant lot
Constructed 20 one bedroom apartment units for the elderly and disabled in the community.
In March 2007 a 2000 sq. Ft. daycare addition was completed along with renovations to the existing fellowship hall.
Bishop Hargrave has received numerous awards, including certification for one of the most outstanding Young men in America award, and the Diamond Award plaque for outstanding service toward the betterment of our country. He has served on every level of the church. In July 2004 he was elected to the office of 2nd Vice President of the Western North Carolina District. He was elevated to the First assistant to the Bishop in October 2005. In May 2008 he was consecrated a Bishop in the United Holy Church of America’s Quadrennial Convocation and in July 2008 was elected Vice President of the Western NC District. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of directors of the Triad Christian Academy Greensboro NC. In March 2009, he was appointed the Bishop of Education. (General Education Department, UHC) Bishop Hargrave also served on the Burlington Planning and Zoning Commission for seven years.
He is married to the former Kim Carson. To this union they are blessed with 3 beautiful daughters. He and his family reside in Mcleansville NC.
